    President Yuan-Tseh Lee convened the "Applied Sciences Promotion Symposium" at Longtan, on the eve of the 21st Academician Conference. During this symposium, he proposed the establishment of an "Center of Applied Sciences" within the Academia Sinica.

    The establishment of the "Institute for Applied Science and Engineering Research Preparatort Office"(IASER) was approved in the administrative meeting.

  • 1998

  • March 1, 1998

    President Yuan-Tseh Lee appointed Academician Li-Gang Zhang from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as the convener of the planning group for the establishment of IASER. From February to August of the same year, Academician Zhang actively returned to Taiwan to prepare and finalize the relevant matters for the establishment.

    The administrative meeting approved the establishment of the IASER.

  • April 18, 1998

    The Review Council approved the initial establishment of IASER Subsequently, it will be transformed into the "Research Center for Applied Sciences"(RCAS) once the new organizational law of the Academia Sinica is passed.

  • 1999

  • January, 1999

    President Yuan-Tseh Lee appointed Professor Chen-Shui Tsai from the University of California as a distinguished researcher at the Institute of Physics. Professor Tsai actively returned to Taiwan to assist in the establishment of the IASER, leading initiatives such as promoting short- and medium-term research and overseeing the construction of the center's main building.

    IASER is formally established. President Yuan-Tseh Lee appointed Professor Chen-Shui Tsai as the Founding Director of the IASER, which is temporarily located on 4F, the old building of "Institute of Physics".

    Dr. Yia-Chung Chang was appointed as the Director of the RCAS.
