程育人目前是中央研究院應用科學研究中心的副研究員,在史丹佛大學應用物理系獲得博士學位。他的研究興趣涵蓋多個領域,包括過去的III族氮化物半導體生長、III族氮化物LED和雷射,最近則涉及二維材料成長和光電器件,及光電化學水分解和電極觸媒。
近期的研究集中在兩個領域:二維材料成長與光電器件,以及水分解的電催化觸媒。
過渡金屬二硫化物半導體材料具有自終止的原子表面結構,強烈的光反應以及優異的電荷傳輸特性,使其成為原子尺度電子與光子器件的有前景材料。這些應用的實現有依賴於晶圓等級的晶體成長。由於與基板的微弱凡德爾作用力,成核通常會導致隨機取向,這使得晶體成長具有挑戰性。我的研究探討了二維材料的生長機制,並開發了可以實現基板晶格引導下的有序成核取向的生長條件,為大面積晶體生長立下基礎。
水分解是從可再生能源產生綠氫的具有吸引力的方法。它的成功高度依賴於電催化觸媒的發展。貴重金屬材料因其高效率廣為人知,但高成本限制了實際應用。他的研究開發了一種過渡金屬組合和超音波化學合成方法,可製備具有非常低過電位,跟Pt/C性能相當的高活性水分解電催化觸媒。
